Islands on the Lys: Eurometropolis selected as a pilot project for b-solutions
The Lys canal, which forms part of the border between France and Belgium, has led to the creation of cross-border islands. These islands are physically attached to municipalities on one side of the border, but legally belong to the other. This situation creates administrative, legal and operational challenges for the management and development of the islands, as neither country currently has full jurisdiction or the capacity to act on them.
