Six Thematic Working Groups

The Lille-Kortrijk-Tournai Eurometropolis has established six Thematic Working Groups in order to develop its territory in a coherent manner.

Created on the initiative of the Board and Assembly, the Thematic Working Groups (TWGs) constitute a privileged space in which the main directions of the Eurometropolis are approached. Thanks to regular meetings, the members of each group contribute to putting together territorial cooperation projects . They define strategic directions and propose concrete actions to the Board. When these proposals are chosen, specific working groups, called Project Groups, are set up to ensure their realisation.
The TWGs bring together representatives from the three vectors of the Eurometropolis. A President and two Vice-Presidents are nominated fron each of these. A "trio" - made up of the President of the TWG, a referring technician and a collaborator from the cross-border Agency - prepares and coordinates the meetings.  Each of Eurométropole's 14 members has the possibility of becoming involved in this work.

Six directions of work

The Eurometropolis' programme of work is organised around six cross-border issues. This concerns the provision of quality services within the Eurometropolis. The actions and projects developed also aim to strengthen the feeling of belonging to the same territory. Moreover, the Eurometropolis wishes to improve the accessibility of its territory, as well as the mobility of citizens, workers and goods. It also supports the creation of activities and employment. Finally, it provides cooperative management of the territory and the environment , as well as effective Eurometropolitan governance.

There are currently six TWGs:

  • Services for citizens
  • Tourism
  • Culture
  • Mobility and accessibility
  • Sustainable development
  • Economic development

The objective is to strive towards a new optimum level of coherence in these different areas. For each theme, the TWG carries out an analysis of the actions carried out in the Eurometropolis' different member organisations . Using this evaluation, actions with Eurometropolitan scope are elaborated. Other TWGs will be set up over the long term to optimise economic, social and territorial cohesion within the Lille-Kortrijk-Tournai Eurometropolis.
