TERMM#2 : the second edition of The Euro Regional Music Meeting

In 2009, the networks R.A.O.U.L. (Nord-Pas de Calais), Clubcircuit (Flanders, Belgium) and Club Plasma (Wallonia) joined forces to organise professional get-togethers under the title TERMM (The EuroRegional Music Meeting) on the theme "Modern-day music and constructing Europe". The aim of this second time round - TERMM#2 - is to carry on the work started in 2009 and to provide European pop musicians with a discussion platform focusing on the specific features of the territories and professional practices. The guiding idea of the next professional get-togethers (4 - 5 June in Roubaix) will be to allow an exchange of experiences between participants via workshops offering a cycle of four themes reflecting the concerns of pop musicians in the cross-border region:

Territorial and cultural policies in the European territories
Professional cooperation and the defence of public interest in a changing economic context
Current music trends and sustainable development: a progressive adaptation of activities and production processes towards sustainability.
Movements of audiences and innovative communication tools for tomorrow

The Flanders Festival in Kortrijk/Courtrai is a musical festival, an event not focused on a specific type of music, but instead featuring everything from classical to contemporary, from folk music to sound art. This Friday, the City of Tournai and its institutional partners shift into top gear for the run-up to the July 2 arrival of the Tour de France in Tournai. Over the next five weeks, five exhibitions dedicated to the Tour de France and the world of cycling will be opening their doors to the public. The first will be inaugurated on Friday, 13 April at 18:30 on the first floor of the Halle aux Draps. It pays tribute to a great Tournai citizen, one who got the whole of Belgium at fever pitch with his reports on the feats of Eddy Merckx: Luc Varenne. This exhibition, open until July 22, has been organised by the City of Tournai and Namur's Maison de la Mémoire du Cyclisme. Alphonse Tetaert, better known as Luc Varenne, was born in Tournai on 8 February 1914. During the Second World War, he fought against Rommel's Africa Corps in Tunisia, but also presented the broadcast "Belgians speaking to you from London" for Belgian radio. After the war, he went on to commentate on football matches, creating his own radio slot "Le quart d’heure du sport". He also commentated on the Tour de France for RTBF and was one of Eddy Merckx's greatest supporters. His style of reporting got crowds onto their feet and cheering, with lots of us remembering his famous "Vas-y mon petit", urging Eddy on. In 1998 he was made a Chevalier by King Albert II. He died on 30 April 2002 at the age of 88. You can visit this free exhibition from 13 April until 27 May on the first floor of the Halle aux Draps in Tournai, with daily opening hours from 9:00 till 17:00 (except Sundays). From 28 May until 17 June the exhibition will be divided up between various city-centre restaurants and cafés. Symposium on voluntary work

The SAM Eurometropolis project partners are holding a symposium on voluntary work in ROUBAIX. This symposium will bring together professionals and voluntary workers from the Eurometropolis social organisations (CPAS and CCAS) to discuss ways of supporting voluntary workers. "How can one provide adequate support to voluntary workers in the work they are doing within the CPAS/CCAS?"
This is the key issue we will be trying to find an answer to during the symposium. The "France Bénévolat" voluntary work organisation will be there to inspire participants with its expertise. In roundtable discussions, social work organisations from both sides of the border will exchange best practices in order to find better solutions to shared problems. 23rd World Basketball Tournament

For the second time the Eurometropolis will be partnering this world tournament with its mix of youth, dynamism and competitiveness. A selection of under-23 basketball players from the Eurometropolis will be defending the Eurometropolis Lille-Kortrijk-Tournai colours against 7 other teams from Canada, Lithuania, Spain, Poland, Russia, Serbia and the USA. 5th Competition Newrope

On 6 April 2012 the Visions of Europe association of Lille's Institute of Political Studies will be holding its fifth European Policy Competition Newrope, aimed at promoting the European idea and giving life to a citizen-oriented and popular Europe. This competition sees student delegations from France and Germany coming together to present their concrete project in an entertaining manner. The competition would also like to gain greater local support from students and citizens from the Lille metropolitan area. Doors are open from 13:30 at the Lille City Hall, Erro room.
