A cross-border square in honour of Jacques Delors

"Jacques Delors" will be the name of the future cross-border square linking the two Eurometropolitan towns of Halluin (F) and Menin (B). A new link between Belgium and France, this symbolic place is intended to underline urban linkage within the Lille-Kortrijk-Tournai Eurometropolis. And the name has not just been pulled out of a hat .... Jacques Delors was one of the foremost architects of the European building. At the end of his term of office at the European Commission in 1995, he left behind a completely revamped Europe that had grown to cover 15 states. Still working, Jacques Delors has been head of "Notre Europe", the Paris-based research and study group, since 1996.
Work on the square is scheduled to begin in autumn 2012. In the meantime, a study will be conducted to define public transport arrangements for the square. In addition, discussions will take place on the day-to-day management of this new cross-border public space.
