Academic collaboration within the Eurometropolis
On 28 September 2010, Jan Beirlant, rector of the KULAK (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven Campus Kortrijk), Mark Waer, rector of the K.U. Leuven (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven) and Christian Sergheraert, president of the Université Lille Nord de France, signed an agreement to strengthen their collaboration with regard to academic teaching, research and innovation.
This ambitious project offers numerous advantages to students, teachers and researchers from the cross-border territory. "It's the green light for numerous very practical initiatives with regard to modular training, research collaborations and cross-border exchanges of personnel, students and resources", explains Stef Vande Meulebroucke, General Manager of the Eurometropolis.
Intercultural exchanges are now possible in several university faculties. In the long term, academic collaborations within the Lille-Kortrijk-Tournai Eurometropolis will allow for its regional training and research centres to attain an international standing.
