Platform on pollution
At the end of 2011 the Eurometropolis Lille-Kortrijk-Tournai created a platform on pollution. This permanent tripartite consultation forum confirms the political will to improve control of pollution caused by the industry.
The platform mainly focuses on the Lys Valley, where the borders of the three regions – North of France, Wallonie Picarde and West Flanders – coincide and which is characterised by a high concentration of industrial activity.
It has multiple purposes:
- To guarantee a permanent exchange of information between the competent services of the three regions with the purpose of sharing knowledge on the potential sources of pollution (these sources are currently being mapped) and of creating an alerting network, enabling a swift response in the three subregions in case of incidents involving a risk of pollution.
- Another purpose of the platform is to carry out joint studies and measurements with regard to pollution in the Eurometropolitan territory. Within the framework of an Interreg project, joint measurements of the air quality have already been carried out
